Welcome!
My name is Clare J FitzGerald and I am a Lecturer in Management & Organization at King's College London (KCL) in the Public Services Management and Organisation Department. Prior to KCL, I was as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, Blavatnik School of Government. I am also a proud graduate of North Carolina State University, where I completed my PhD and Master’s in Public Administration.
I am a theory-driven, mixed-methods researcher who explores how organisations independently and collectively deliver public value with a particular interest in the constraining and enabling powers of law, rules and regulations, and administrative practices. My research has been funded by United Kingdom Research & Innovation Economic and Social Research Council. I have co-led commissioned evaluations for the UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (Evaluation of the Life Chances Fund) and the UK Home Office (Evaluation of the Trusted Relationships Programme).
I am also the recipient of a 2017 Innovations in American Government Award Bright Ideas from the Harvard Kennedy School Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation for the mobile application iThrive. My research has been published and presented in a range of academic journals and conferences including Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management, International Research Society for Public Management, Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis, Public Management Research Conference, Public Management Review and Public Money & Management.
Right now, I'm working on a short book exploring public service contracting under contract with Cambridge University Press.
